We built Elf Panic Button to be a simple, helpful tool for parents during the holiday season. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
What We Collect
Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (stored securely as a hash — we never see your actual password).
Elf & family details: If you choose to enter them during onboarding, we store your family name, the number of elves in your household, your elves' names, and your kids' ages. These are used only to personalize scene suggestions and notes.
Supply lists: If you use the Supplies feature, we store the items you add so we can match them to scene ideas.
Payment information: When you purchase the Season Pass, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number, CVV, or full card details — Stripe handles that. We only receive your Stripe customer ID and subscription status.
Calendar entries & favorites: Scenes you save to your December calendar or mark as favorites are stored so you can access them later.
How We Use Your Information
We use your data to:
•
Generate and display elf scene ideas and excuses tailored to your family.
•
Remember your saved scenes, calendar entries, and favorite ideas.
•
Manage your account and verify your Season Pass subscription.
•
Process payments through Stripe (we never handle card data directly).
•
Improve the app — for example, understanding which scene types are popular so we can add more like them.
We Don't Sell Your Data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We don't share your data with advertisers. The only third-party service that receives your information is Stripe, and only what's needed to process your payment.
Cookies & Local Storage
We use your browser's local storage (not cookies) to keep a simple counter of how many free scenes you've generated. This lets us offer 3 free tries before prompting you to subscribe. This counter lives on your device — it's not sent to our servers and it's not tied to your identity. You can clear it anytime by clearing your browser's site data.
Data Retention
Your account data stays for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (from the Settings screen), we erase your elf names, settings, supplies, calendar entries, and favorites. Payment records are retained as required for tax and legal purposes.
Children's Privacy
Elf Panic Button is designed for parents and guardians, not for children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we'll delete it.
Your Rights
You can access, correct, or delete your data at any time. Most of it can be changed directly in the app (settings, supplies, calendar). To delete your entire account, use the “Delete Account” option in Settings. You can also email us at the address below and we'll handle it within 30 days.
Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and row-level security on our database so no user can ever see another user's data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep yours safe.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, we'll change the “Last updated” date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also notify you in the app or by email.
